Mothering the Mother

Who is Clare?

I am a mum to two girls and a boy.
After a difficult first birth in 1993, it took me six years before I felt strong enough emotionally to try again.
I researched extensively and opted for a home birth in 1999.
This time, after a twenty minute labour during which I felt confident, in control of myself and my enviroment, I gave birth to a 8lb 14oz beauty. The difference between the two births was staggering.

My son also had a home birth, practically the same weight as his younger sister and came in eighty minutes from first contraction to delivery. He is a calm and contented boy, a reflection of his easy arrival into the world. I really enjoyed this birth and the sight of his two sisters holding him minutes after his arrival will always be a special memory.

So many women I meet have not had the birth experience or the support that they wanted or needed, and
seemed to console themselves with 'at least the baby was OK'.

I believe that the presence of a Doula can give the Mother the confidence to have a positive birth experience that they can look back on with pride.

I previously worked as a Director of a BPO company and left this role to focus on my family. I am now researching and training in other areas to add even more value to my work as a Doula.

I am also trained Infant massage instructor and peer breastfeeding supporter.

My business experience gives me the confidence to manage medical professionals
and challenge if necessary.
